Reunion Committee Meeting – June 2010

John Baumann & Janice Quick Ashborn checking out a hotel for our reunion

Our reunion committee met on June 5 to “get the ball rolling” for our 50th reunion that will take place in the Fall of 2011. Between now and the end of 2010 the committee will be looking for a venue that will suit our needs, placing emphasis on proximity to an airport, hotel amenities, cost, availability, nearby activities and food service.

Wasting no time, we started the meeting by visiting a hotel in Dana Point that would possibly satisfy most of our requirements, except that the hotel is not located near a major airport, which could be a problem for out-of-town classmates. We will keep you posted as we get closer to making a decision. Also, we’re open for suggestions, so if you know of a hotel that you think would be suitable for our reunion, please leave your comments below and we’ll check it out.

  1. Reunions should be in a location close to where we grew up and enjoyed so many good times. It should be something everyone can do no matter what walk of life they come from. Have a reunion, not a social event. Cruises, fancy hotels, and golf games are fine, but they are not something everyone can do. A possibility could be a weekend when there is a home football game on a Friday night with a dinner and dance on Saturday. Another idea would be inviting the spouses of our classmates who are no longer with us. I just wanted to voice my opinion on the fact our 50th reunion ahould be someting everyone is able to do. Hope to see EVERYONE there.

  2. I have never been on a cruise but have sailed a lot. A cruise ship does not have a golf course. Also some people get sea sick.
How about Catalina. It’s a wonderful small community and easy to get to. Most things are in walking distance so we would all be close without the hussle and bussle of freeways and gridlock. Avalon doesn’t allow cars “down town”. And I believe it would cost a lot less especially for those of us who live far away.

    Can’t wait to see ya’all

ps: There is a golf course

  3. Hi,
I have never been on a cruise so that sounds interesting. Everyone says they are wonderful. Anything sounds good to me. We live in Cherry Valley so are not very far from anything.

  4. Happy to hear you guys are already busy on our 50th. I wish I could help in some way, but live too far out of your area. My vote would be like Kay Seale’s, cooler climate preferred over warmer. But, no matter where, I’ll be there!
    Good luck, Sue

  5. A cruise sounds good to me! Whatever, wherever, I’ll be there! I agree with Doug, let’s do something different.

    Regards to all!

  6. The Class of 1960 is using the Ayers Hotel in Ontario right next to the airport. The staff has worked with our group in a professional manner.

  7. Hi,

We live in San Juan Capistrano, very close to Dana Point. The John Wayne Airport is only a 20 minute drive from here and uses most of the major airlines. We have a toll way that makes that commute easier and avoids the 5 freeway.
Thanks for the update on the 50th reunion.

  8. I recently talked to one of my neighbors who just had his reunion on a 4 day cruise ship. The price was very, very reasonable with all the amenities one could want. It seems as if all our reunions are golf related. That being said, there is golf available on Catalina Island, San Diego, and Cabo San Lucas. Most cruise ships will visit those ports on a four day cruise. I have been on quite a few cruises and I have never had a bad experience and the entertainment was some of the best for a lot less than what you would pay to go to Las Vegas for 4 days, not to mention the food, food and more food ! Will someone please break the mold and put some excitement into our reunion ?

  9. Dear Cheryl,

Who said it was going to be our 50th? Can that be possible?

Thank you so much for sending this information for
us so far in advance. I wish I knew more about that area so
I could be of help, but since I don’t won’t be of any help at
all. However, I would always vote for somewhere it is
    cooler over warmer.

    It already sounds like fun!

    Sincerely, Kay
